In an effort to strengthen tourism ties between Honduras and El Salvador, the Honduran Institute of Tourism (IHT) recently organized a successful media tour on the island of Roatan in the Honduran Caribbean. The initiative brought together prominent Salvadoran journalists and content creators to experience the unique offerings of this world-class destination.
El Salvador represents the second most important tourism market for Honduras, with over 170,000 Salvadoran visitors in 2023 alone. Roatan, renowned for its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and rich cultural and culinary heritage, stands out as a top destination for Salvadoran travelers.
Exploring Roatan’s Iconic Attractions
During their stay, the media group had the opportunity to explore some of the island’s most iconic landmarks and resorts, immersing themselves in its cultural, gastronomic, and ecological treasures.
The tour included visits to cultural and gastronomic hotspots such as Mayak Chocolate Roatan and The Roatan Chocolate Factory. Here, participants delved into the rich cacao traditions of Central America, learning about the chocolate-making process from bean to bar. These establishments, celebrated for their artisanal approach and environmental commitment, offered an engaging and educational experience.
The group also experienced Roatan’s remarkable biodiversity and ecotourism offerings through visits to Gumbalimba Park and Mayan Eden Eco Park.
At Gumbalimba Park, participants interacted with friendly macaws and white-faced capuchin monkeys, strolled along tropical trails, and crossed the park’s iconic suspension bridge for unforgettable memories.
