The Port of Roatan has revealed a new Master Plan which will include many exciting amenities for our visiting travelers. In 2018, a cruise ship ran aground damaging a portion of the existing port. A few weeks after the incident, a new Master Plan was announced.

The Annual Festival is not one to miss. It is full of festivities, dancing, and singing of old chants and songs in their native Garifuna language. There are several small performances throughout the day, but the main event is a march, along with the bay on foot and on a boat that ultimately ends in Punta Gorda.

New advances are presented in the distribution project in the Diamond Rock area. Once this stage is completed, it will begin with the installation of submarine wiring that will provide, for the first time, electric power to the island of Santa Elena.

New Landfill Deal.
Mayor secures a new land deal for the dumpster.
As a consequence of our growth, the island of Roatan has had difficulties with its landfills and with the disposal of its waste. This is due in large part to the limited amount of land available for landfills. In recent months, we saw the perpetual burning of our landfill and the inability of local officials to put out the flames.
